University applications
Dead lines
The academic year is usually divided into an autumn term (early September to late December) and a winter term (early January to late April). There are also spring and summer sessions during which the choice of courses is more limited.
To be admitted to first level (undergraduate) university studies, the university must receive your completed application, at the latest
- before 1 March for the upcoming autumn term
- before 1 November for the upcoming winter term (but ideally before 1 August, taking into account the time needed to obtain study authorisations)
- before 1 February for graduate admissions
Since these deadlines can vary according to the specific university or course, it is best to check with your chosen university. You should also apply sooner rather than later so as to leave plenty of time to obtain study authorisations.
Deadlines are sometimes overlooked if the course is not subject to quotas.
How to apply
Applications are made on paper. You can request an application from your chosen university in the post or download it from their website. It is sometimes possible to make your application online.
You will usually have to send with your application:- your latest mark sheets
- your birth certificate
- the application fee (usually between 30 to 100 $ CAN)
Other documents or additional procedures may also be needed, depending on your chosen discipline. This could be a portfolio, interview, audition, a letter outlining your aims or motivations, references etc.
