New Zealand citizen's family visa

This visa is for application by the family of a New Zealand citizen, who is either travelling to Australia, or already living here on a temporary Special Category Visa (Subclass 444).

This visa was introduced in 2001 in response to other changes in visa arrangements for New Zealand citizens. This visa is for five years only, whereas before the Australian Immigration Department (DIMIA) issued a permanent visa for the families of New Zealand citizens, and charged full fees. As there is now provision for New Zealand citizens to apply for a permanent visa in the Skilled Migration Program, family members can now also be included on that visa for permanent entry. The Special Category Visa and the New Zealand Citizen's Family Members Visa are only for temporary residence in Australia.

The Special Category Visa for New Zealand citizens can be issued automatically on arrival in Australia, but the New Zealand Citizen's Family Members Visa is not issued automatically. You must obtain this visa stamped in your passport before arrival.
