Immigration Requirements
Having received an admission letter from your chosen university you then need to obtain
- an acceptance certificate (CAQ) for study purposes issued by the Quebec government
- a study permit issued by the Canadian government
The following categories of applicants do NOT need a CAQ in order to study in Quebec:
- those embarking on a programme of studies lasting six months or less
- recipients of a of Commonwealth scholarship or a full bursary (covering all expenses) from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), including Francophonie scholarships
- participants in a Canadian aid programme for developing countries
- those in possession of a valid Quebec Selection Certificate (CSQ) whose permanent residence permit is being processed in Canada - notably the spouse of an individual authorised to remain in Canada and those authorised to remain in Canada whilst an application to remain on humanitarian grounds is being considered.
Obtaining a CAQ (Quebec Acception Certificate)
Requirements
In order to obtain a CAQ you need to:
- pay the necessary application fee
- be accepted by an educational institution in Quebec
- agree to abide by the rules set out in connection with the CAQ, namely to make your studies your principal occupation in Quebec and to take out health and hospital insurance, both for yourself and any accompanying members of your family, for the entire period of your residence in Quebec
- prove sufficient funds to cover all the costs relating to your stay in Quebec, including admission fees, tuition fees, living costs, transportation etc
