29 October 2004
For concise and recent immigration information watch our news.
As of Nov.1, 2004, people applying for a visa under the Highly Skilled Migrant Program (HSMP), will have to fill out a new application form. Applications made using the old form will not be accepted after December 1.
There will not be any changes to the basic requirements or any criteria for eligibility under the HSMP, but an acknowledgment slip will be added to the new form.
The slip will be given to the applicant or his/her representative and will have the applicant's HSMP reference number on it. The slip will also show the current processing time and there will be a checklist so the applicant can make sure all information submitted is correct.
The HSMP is available for people who have exceptional skills within a certain field and wish to live and work in the UK. A successful applicant will be granted 12 months right to live and work in the UK. It is possible to have the initial 12 months extended up to three years.
After completing four years work in the UK, a person may apply for an Indefinite Leave to Remain.
