UK visa applicants from Tanzania must be TB-free

From 17 October 2005, all visa applicants in Tanzania wishing to come to the United Kingdom for a period longer than six months will need to provide a certificate confirming that they are free from infectious tuberculosis (TB) with their visa application. Applications without a certificate will be refused and visa fees will not be refunded.

This will apply to all categories of visa applications for stays of longer than six months. Visitors or those staying for less than six months will not need a certificate. Diplomatic passport holders and children under age 10 do not need to be tested for TB.

Those found to be suffering from infectious TB will be asked to seek further treatment and will not normally be allowed to apply for a visa until after they have been successfully treated and are certified free of infection.
