Canada funds refugee resettlement

Funding was announced for two Canadian cities to deal with refugee resettlement as Canada joined other countries in celebrating World Refugee Day on 20 June 2008.
Refugees in the Canadian cities of Kitchener and Hamilton will have more robust resettlement services offered to them in an effort to ease their integration into Canadian society.

The Kitchener-Waterloo House Church Assembly will receive more than $630,000 to help up to 280 refugees resettle in the Ontario area. Settlement and Integration Services in Hamilton will receive more than $730,000 to help 320 refugees do the same.
"Canada is a blessed country, and the Government of Canada is committed to helping those truly in need begin their new lives in Canada," said Immigration Minister Diane Finley.
"As we celebrate World Refugee Day, these services will help them along their journey. The hopes and dreams they bring with them will help build a richer and stronger Canada."
World Refugee Day is celebrated annually across the globe to honor the courage and hardship of refugees and displaced people everywhere.
The funding for both cities is provided through the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP). This program offers financial support and immediate assistance for newly arrived refugees.
RAP provides services such as help with finding temporary and permanent accommodation, and help with managing everyday tasks such as banking and managing a household.
