Australian Skilled Migration points test increase

From 8 May 2002 the pass and pool marks for some general skilled migration visa categories has changed.

These changes only effect you if you lodged your application on or after 8 May 2002. If you lodged your application before 8 May 2002 these changes will not affect your application.

If you apply to migrate to Australia under the Skilled - Australian Sponsored category or any of the Skilled - Independent categories, you will be assessed against a points test.

Points can be awarded for skill, age, English language ability, specific work experience, occupation in demand (and job offer), Australian qualifications, spouse skills and relationship (for Skilled - Australian sponsored only). Points are awarded once the basic requirements have been satisfied.

Pass mark and pool mark

You must gain sufficient points to reach the pass mark. Applications which achieve a score below the past mark (but above another mark, known as the 'pool mark'), will be held in reserve for up to 2 years after assessment. 

If the pass mark is lowered at any time in that 2 year period, and your score is equal to, or higher than, the new pass mark, your case will be processed further.

Applications received on or after 8 May 2002 are subject to the following pass marks and pool marks.

Applications received before 8 May 2002 will continue to be subject to the pass marks and pool marks listed below:
