Governments in Western Countries need relatively high levels of immigration to fill jobs in skilled shortage areas. The falling birth rate in the West and the reluctance of many people to do certain low level jobs and indeed certain high level jobs has meant that many vacancies remain unfilled. At the same time immigration policy has to be acceptable to the general population. This has resulted in the last two weeks in immigration policies in both the US and the UK that if fully introduced would make immigration easier in some ways and yet more difficult in other ways. workpermit.com will keep you fully updated on these and other changes and on what happens in practice.
