Retired Person Permit

If you are a retired person who wishes to retire in South Africa, you can apply for a temporary residence permit under the retired persons category. To apply for the retired persons permit, you must provide evidence that you are financially secure, in the form of a lifelong pension or proof that you are receiving income of no less than £1,700 per month.

The retired persons permit is valid for up to four years after which it may be renewed. The holder of the permit may reside within the Republic on a seasonal or continuous basis.

Applicants will need to:

• Prove they have the right to a pension, or an irrevocable annuity or retirement account which will provide them with a minimum payment of £1,700 for the rest of their life; or
• Demonstrate a net worth via a combination of assets that will equal an amount of £1,700 per month.
