Dear Visitor

Immigration newsletter - 20 July 2005

Canada's Prince Edward Island is sponsoring a study about its immigrants in order to prepare its new population strategy, to be released later this summer. The new population strategy will include plans to convince former Islanders to return home, and to prevent people living there already from leaving. However, a large part of the plan will focus on bringing more immigrants from foreign countries to the Island.

Hoping to promote economic growth in Australia's Riverina region of New South Wales, the Riverina Regional Development Board is encouraging applications from skilled people who are interested in migrating using the Skilled Independent Regional (SIR) Visa. The SIR visa allows you to live and work in regional Australia with the option to apply for permanent residence after a period of time.

US Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, called on the US Congress to approve a guest worker program that would make it easier for foreign workers to enter the country legally. The guest worker program would increase the number of legal immigrants allowed to enter the US each year.
