Canadian government census figures show that there are now 200 languages spoken in Canada.

The first Canadian census was held in 1871. Since 1956, censuses have been held every five years. The most recent was held in 2011. Analysis of the census data shows that there are now more than 200 languages spoken. 20% of the population (6.6m people) mainly speak a language other than French or English at home. Of these, 6.4m speak 'immigrant languages' and 213,000 speak aboriginal Canadian languages.

The UK Border Agency's Criminal and Financial Investigation team conducted a series of raids in Yorkshire on 23rd October 2012. Four people were arrested on suspicion of people-trafficking offences. One of them was a lawyer who is a director of a law firm specialising in immigration.

33 border control officers carried out a series of raids in Huddersfield and Harrogate, towns in Yorkshire, a county in the north of England. Of the four people arrested, three were women aged 35, 37 and 55. Among these was Nisa-Ul Haq, a legal executive and director of Haq and Sanderson Immigration Ltd of Huddersfield.

As of summer 2012, those applying for British nationality from outside the UK must send their applications to the UK Border Agency in Liverpool, England for processing. It is no longer possible to submit applications in British High Commissions or Consulates in countries around the world.

The only exception to this rule is in Hong Kong where applications will continue to be accepted as before.

The latest figures from the UK government show that 30,000 people left the UK to live in India last year, according to the BBC. Most, but not all, of these, are the children of migrants from India who came to the UK seeking opportunities in the 1960s and 70s. A similar trend is emerging in the US as well.

A BBC investigation has revealed that a UK immigration advisory firm took fees for services it did not provide. Former employees say that they were encouraged to lie to clients. The investigation has also revealed that a second firm has been offering advice without being authorised to do so.

The BBC programme Inside Out investigated two immigration advisory firms, UK Visa and Immigration and UK Immigration Barristers. Both firms are based in Birmingham and, according to Inside Out, are linked.

The Canadian IT sector is thriving. Montreal is a global centre for video game companies for example. Last year (2011) alone, the sector grew by 21% creating 8,000 new jobs.
