US President Barack Obama has announced the US will stop the deportation of some illegal immigrant children. Obama said the change would become effective immediately to "lift the shadow of deportation from these young people.""Let's be clear, this is not amnesty, this is not immunity, this is not a path to citizenship, this is not a permanent fix," Obama said. "This is the right thing to do."

A recently released independent report claims that UK Border Agency staff processing visa applications from Africa had been "acting unfairly" and were wrongly refusing people entry to the UK. The reported carried out by John Vine, Chief inspector to the UKBA, claimed that many visas were unfairly rejected after employees "disregarded or misinterpreted" evidence. According to Vine, some UK visa applicants had been refused entry for not failing to provide information that had not been originally requested.

Critics have warned that stricter Tier 2 visa requirements introduced last year will threaten the global competitiveness of the UK's food industry. The changes mean that many high level employees will not be able to remain in the UK on a permanent basis.
