We remind you that in September the Australian senate voted to save four visa classes which relate to family members. These visa categories had previously been discontinued from June 2014.

These types of visa allow Australian citizens or permanent residents to sponsor relatives to come and join them in Australia. They were first introduced in the Migration Act of 1958.

A UK religious leader has criticised politicians for demonising immigrants who come to the UK.

Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, spoke out after Defence Secretary Michael Fallon commented that some parts of the UK were being 'swamped' by foreign migrants.

Fallon has since been forced to apologise for his comments. However he continues to insist that the number of migrants coming to the UK was putting pressure on UK services such as housing and healthcare.

The Canadian government have made the visa application process for Saudi nationals wishing to visit Canada easier. The changes were announced after a series of talks took place between Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister, John Baird, and various senior Saudi Leaders.

Baird met last month with Crown Prince Salman, and Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal to discuss efforts to control the Islamic State (IS). Additionally, they also discussed bilateral, regional and security issues; visa reforms were also agreed.

The greatest increases in economic growth can be seen in the Western part of Canada according to the latest figures from Statistics Canada.

This economic growth in Western Canada is largely due to a boom in the oil and natural gas sectors. There is also a growing mining and construction industry.

New migrants should consider the Western part of Canada as an immigration destination. The economies of British Colombia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba are also reported to be on the increase.

A recent parliamentary report reveals serious problems with the UK's immigration system.

The report by the Commons Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has criticised £1bn wasted on cancelled IT projects. The report also says that there are 50,000 missing asylum seekers who have vanished from the system, and who cannot be traced. There is also a huge backlog of 29,000 unprocessed asylum applications dating back to 2007.

The US is undergoing a 'second great wave of immigration,' according to a recent study by USA Today.In the report US immigration over the past 20 years has been compared to the huge arrival of immigrants in the early 20th Century.

The effect of this 'second wave' is its positive impact on ethnic diversity across the whole of the US, even in rural areas such as the Midwest where, up until recently, residents were predominantly white.
