The leader of the UK Labour Party has delivered a party political broadcast on UK television saying that the last Labour government got its UK immigration policy wrong. He said that he now has 'a new approach' to the issue.

The Migration Matters Trust, a UK group founded by parliamentarians to encourage an open and honest debate about immigration in the UK, has criticised the BBC for accepting statistics presented by an anti-immigration organisation without question. p>

Migration Matters has written to the BBC complaining about the prominence that it gives to figures produced by Migrationwatch UK. The Migration Matters letter complains 'Migrationwatch UK are not an independent thinktank or academic body but a lobbying and campaigning organisation'.

9,353 people gained Canadian permanent resident status under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) visa in 2012, according to recently released figures. The latest immigration statistics have been released by the UK's Office for National Statistics (ONS). They show that net immigration for the year ending in June 2012 was a third lower than it was in the year ending in June 2011.
