A report published by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) says that the Tier 2 visa system is barely used by Britain’s small businesses. Recently released research revealed that 95 per cent of UK small firms had never used the Tier 2, points-based immigration system and few were in possession of a Tier 2 Sponsorship Licence.

According to a report published by Josic Media, interest in US business immigration visas both non-immigrant visas and green cards has seen a sharp rise during the first quarter of 2017.

Chinese state-owned telecoms giant, ZTE is a recent victim of the UK government’s Tier 2 visa sponsor licence inspections. The Home Office has suspended ZTE from the Tier 2 Sponsorship Licence scheme, used by overseas organisations to recruit foreign nationals to work in the UK, stating that ZTE ‘had not fulfilled its duties.’

US President, Donald Trump, officially ordered a review of the H1B visa in April 2017, sparking concerns that access to the US work visa will get tougher. The cap for the 2018 H1B scheme was reached within a few days of being introduced at the beginning of April. Workpermit.com has suggested a number of other US visa options available to applicants including the EB5 and L1 visas.

President Donald Trump, via his US visas travel bans for certain mainly muslim Countries, tried and to a great extent failed to prevent the entry of refugees from the war torn nation of Syria. Like his predecessor President Barack Obama Trump has had difficulty with US Courts who, in his case, have suspended his travel bans. According to an international NGO, which facilitates scholarships for refugees, the US is not willing to take in displaced Syrian citizens. Instead, they’ve been forced to seek help from Argentina.

As of 6 April, 2017, teachers applying for Tier 2 visas outside of the UK to work for employers with Tier 2 Sponsorship Licences will be subject to criminal record checks as part of their application. Nursery, primary and secondary school teachers will be required to provide criminal record certificates as part of new legislation.
