Following a public hearing marred by angry clashes between supporters of Donald Trump who is now President and pro-immigration campaigners, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved the opening of a new office that will offer US Visa county assistance to immigrants.

Restrictive UK Visa policies are continuing to cause problems in the UK.  It is difficult to obtain an UK Tier 2 Sponsorship Licence and Tier 2 Visa.  Job site, Indeed.com has urged Britain’s tech sector to rally together to attract more non-EU workers on Tier 2 visas to plug skills gaps in cyber-security. Data released by Indeed shows that UK businesses are at high risk due to a shortage of cyber-security expertise.

UK Visas remains a hot topic.  Scottish National Party (SNP) MPs have vowed to ‘keep the pressure’ on the Home Office over UK immigration rules. The SNP’s pledge comes after Glasgow Central MP, Alison Thewliss, met with UK immigration minister, Robert Goodwill. Following the meeting, Thewliss expressed her disappointment, saying ‘no progress was achieved.’

UK Visa rules must be relaxed.  Australia has told the UK to relax Tier 2 visa restrictions and Tier 2 Sponsorship Licence rules if it wants to strike a free trade deal post-Brexit. Australia’s high commissioner to the UK, Alexander Downer, said that Canberra – Australia’s capital city – would seek better access for business people operating in the UK before agreeing any post-Brexit deal.

Threats made by senator Jeff Sessions – now the Attorney General appointed by Donald Trump now US President – have been brushed off by Indian IT firms. India’s tech industry says they’ve ‘arrived at a stage where they can smoothly adapt to alterations in US immigration rules.’

A group of protesters amassed at the Metropolitan AME Church in Washington on Saturday, January 14 in a show of support for rallies taking place across the US, decrying incoming President Donald Trump for his anti-immigrant rhetoric and his pledges to construct a US-Mexico border wall and introduce a Muslim registry system.

Throughout his presidential campaign, Trump, whose inauguration took place on Friday, January 20, adopted an extreme and controversial anti-immigrant stance, which inflamed tensions with American Muslims and drew criticism from around the world.
