Immigration news

During a Fox News debate on March 3, Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump appeared to have done a u-turn on his stance concerning entry of overseas workers on US L-1 and H-1B visas. It has been said that "The Donald" Trump changes his mind so often that no one really knows what he would wish to do on immigration if he becomes President.

Trump referred to as "The Glorious Leader" on an American Neo-Nazi site has recently been described as being a hypocrite by the right wing National Review:

The ongoing disagreement between India and the US over the doubling of H-1B and L-1 visa fees intensified recently as New Delhi lodged a complaint on Friday, 4 March with the World Trade Organization (WTO), challenging the fee increases. WTO has said that India has disputed the doubling of the fees for H-1B and L-1 work visas and limits on their numbers.

The H-1B and L-1 non-immigrant temporary work visas are popular among Indian information technology firms. They use them to employ Indian nationals to fill job vacancies for their operations in the US.

US Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) centers are struggling to process L-1 visa (both L-1A and L-1B visas) petition extensions and H-1B visa extension applications, resulting in severe delays. In this situation it may be advisable to pay the additional Government fee of US$1225 and use premium processing. An 'overwhelming backlog' is said to be the cause, however, USCIS has not publicly disclosed why delays have occurred and have not yet provided any explanation for the backlog.

UK Immigration has announced that fees across most UK visa categories will be increased from March 18, 2016. The move is likely to affect thousands of applicants, including Indians, who are the largest group of skilled workers to be granted Tier 2 visas to live and work in Britain both in 2015 and in the past.

Emad Elsayed, an Egyptian student in California, has been detained by US immigration authorities as a result of a hostile comment he posted on Facebook aimed at Republican Presidential candidate, Donald Trump. He said on Facebook that if he killed Trump he wouldn't mind serving a life sentence and that the world would thank him for it.

Madeleine Bordallo, the US delegate to the United States House of Representatives for the US island territory of Guam in the Western Pacific, has warned that increased US work visa denial rates could have an adverse effect on Guam's health care services and affect construction work at the Guam Military Base (the US military is one of the two major sources of income for Guam).
