Approximately one in 17 secondary school teachers and one in 20 primary school teachers in Australia are British-born. According to teacher recruitment agencies, demand for Modern Foreign Language, Mathematics and Science teachers is particularly high.

Restrictions on recruiting non-EU nurses have been temporarily relaxed by the UK government. The decision to make it easier for nurses to be employed under the tier 2 visa scheme was made to help ease the pressure on the NHS.

The entry period for the DV-2017 green card lottery started on 1 October 2015. The closing date is 3 November, 2015.

Almost 100,000 more Russians took part in the 2015 U.S. green card lottery than in the 2012 lottery, according to U.S. Embassy spokesman Will Stevens.

The UK government says that they are concerned about skilled worker shortages in the UK. However Government policy is making the situation worse by making it more and more difficult to employ highly skilled nationals from outside the EU. Also, new charges for businesses are unlikely to improve the situation. In the 8 July 2015 budget announcement, UK chancellor George Osborne, spoke of an 'apprenticeship levy.' This was quickly followed by an announcement from Immigration Minister, James Brokenshire that there will be an 'immigration skills charge.'

A report published in the New York Times claims that Toy 'R' Us has used the H-1B visa system to facilitate the layoff of US workers, employ foreign workers and ultimately send job roles overseas. The H-1B visa is a temporary visa program that permits US employers to recruit foreign professionals usually with at least a bachelor's degree to work in "specialty occupations"

The high refusal rate for L-1B non-immigrant visas for Indians has had a significant impact on Indian companies and workers. The National Foundation for American Policy (NFAP) a liberal right wing think tank found that between 2012-2014, only 44% of the L-1B visa applications to employ Indians were granted. Compare this to the granting of an overall 87% of applications for all other countries. It also seems to be easier in many cases to obtain L-1A visas for international managers/executives than L-1B visas for specialized knowledge employees.
