Last week citizenship ceremonies took place throughout Canada as the Country celebrated citizenship week. During the week hundreds of people became Canadian citizens and hundreds of Canadians reaffirmed their commitment to the Country.
"Canadian citizenship is highly valued. Citizenship Week 2009 is an opportunity for all Canadians to celebrate our citizenship," said Immigration Minister Jason Kenney.
Special Australian visa announcements: Australia is looking overseas for good tradespeople to shore up their labor market. On 16 October the Canadian Immigration Minister Jason Kenney announced language training vouchers to encourage new immigrants to improve their English and/or French. Newcomers already have free access to language training via local settlement service providers.
On 15 October it was announced that immigrants in Hamilton will benefit from a new Local Immigration Partnership initiative which will help them integrate into Canadian society.
$285,000 in funding will be provided to the City of Hamilton by the Government of Canada.

On 19 October 2009 USCIS Bangkok District Deputy Director Stacy Strong and Seoul Field Office Director Kenneth Sherman visited the aircraft carrier USS George Washington to enable nine sailors to complete the naturalization process. The two USCIS officers held interviews and made it possible for the nine sailors to take the naturalization tests. The nine sailors were originally from China, the Dominican Republic, Guinea, Jamaica, the Philippines, and the United Kingdom. more »Australia second best Country to live in
Earlier this month the UN ranked Australia as second in the World for quality of life. Norway is ranked number one at the moment. Australia could very well end up as number one for quality of life in next year's report. The Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) has made further recommendations for additions to the shortage occupation list. The new citizenship test for those who wish to become Australian citizens starts today. The twenty multiple choice questions is no easier than the previous test. On 12 October the Scottish Qualifications Authority English language tests were added to the lists of approved English language tests, for Tier 1 and Tier 2 visa applications. This is welcome news as it means that it is now in effect easier for some people to come under the Tier 1 and Tier 2 visa. more »
