Australia's Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) is sending immigration officers to visit the New South Wales and South Australia regions during the week beginning 20 February 2012 to give businesses and immigrant workers information on skilled migration and employer-sponsored visa options.

Australian immigration officers will visit Port Macquarie, Woolgoolga, Port Pirie, and Coffs Harbour to hold information sessions about Australia's skilled migration program. The officers also plan to have individual appointments with employers and employees to answer their questions about Australian skilled immigration programs.

"Some businesses in regional communities can find it difficult to fill skilled vacancies with local workers and may want to consider sponsoring a suitably qualified worker from overseas," a departmental spokesman said. "Our officers will be available to provide a range of information on temporary or permanent employer sponsored visa options and the concessions available for regional applicants."

A popular visa choice for employer-sponsored visas is the Subclass 457 work visa. It is a temporary work visa which allows Australian employers to sponsor overseas workers for up to four years. If you wish to immigrate to Australia without employer sponsorship you can come under the General Skilled Migration program. This visa program may be worth considering if you have skills in occupations that Australia needs to fill labor shortages. Applicants must have skills in an occupation listed on Australia's Skilled Occupation List (SOL).
