UK opens visa application centre in Kathmandu, Nepal

UK Ambassador to the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, John Tucknott, opened the new UK visa application centre in Kathmandu, Nepal this month.

"Migration and people to people contact are important strands of the UK-Nepal relationship. Our UK visa operation supports this. It therefore gives me great pleasure to formally open this new visa application centre. One that is bigger, brighter and better for everyone who wishes to apply for a UK visa," Ambassador John Tucknott said.

Simon Dadd, Regional Manager of the UK Border Agency for South Asia, said that UK visa applicants from Nepal can expect a more efficient and convenient visa application service. The visa centre processes visas like the Tier 2 visa which is popular with companies wishing to transfer staff to the UK (Tier 2 Intra-Company Transfer) and to fill highly skilled shortage occupations in the UK (Tier 2 General). The Tier 2 visa can also be used for sports people and ministers of religion.

"We are pleased to announce the opening of the new UK visa application centre in Kathmandu. VFS Global is honoured to have been associated with the UK government since 2003, and to be their trusted partner in 35 other countries," Murali Raghavan, Chief Operating Officer, South Asia and CIS, VFS Global, said.

In 2011 the UK Border Agency processed roughly 12,500 visas in Nepal, of which around 80 percent were successful. The UKBA intends to process visa applications as quickly as possible. Currently, the published visa processing time is 15 working days for 90 percent of short-term UK visas.
