US Green Card Lottery
- Check your eligibility for US Green Card Lottery
Updated July 2013
Even if you are selected by the State Department computer, you will not receive a green card unless you meet the other eligibility criteria. You either need to have "high school education or its equivalent" or "two years experience in an occupation requiring two years of experience or training". You do not need to submit documentary evidence of this when you make your application for the green card lottery.
Education: You will need to show that you have received a high school education which is equivalent to twelve years of education in the US up to the completion of secondary level. It may be that in some countries you can show that less than twelve years of education is equivalent to high school level education in the US but to do this, you may have to provide documentary evidence of your education..
Work Experience: You will need to show that you have worked in a skilled occupation for at least two years. You must show that you have had two years of training or experience, within the past five years, in an occupation that qualifies for a Green Card. The Department of Labor's O*Net system is used to determine whether the occupation is at a sufficiently high level for the Green Card Lottery.
